Let me preface this post by saying that I don’t know much about beer. But I really, really like it.
I do know that I enjoy IPAs, and that one-and-a-half Stella Artois will knock me on my ass. But beyond that, I am far from a connoisseur.
That said, I appreciate the enthusiasm that others have for local, craft, session, etc. brews, and I enjoy reading and learning from kick-ass resources like Drink Up Columbus. In fact, when editor Cheryl Harrison invited me to a beer preview event at Zauber Brewing this week, I was pumped. True, I am no beer expert, but I support all things local and Cheryl is a bonafide badass It Girl.
Zauber, which has been brewing for over two years, has a new 20 barrel brewing system, which we got a special tour of this week. Fun fact: a 20 barrel system can crank out 40 kegs.
Aside from the facility tour, I got to meet some awesome Cbus bloggers, see some old friends and even reminisce about Chumbawumba. Because, like the band sings, after I’ve had an IPA or two, “I get knocked down… but I get up again.”
We also got a taste of three of Zauber’s beers: Vertigo Hefeweizen, Berzerker Belgian IPA and Kitschy Kolsch. These guys will now be on-tap regularly, AND distributed to other bars and growler shops in September.
Wanna give ’em a try? Swing by the Bier Release Bash on Thursday, August 21! Ribbon cutting at noon, keg tapping ceremony at 4:00, fun all afternoon/evening.
Other fun facts about Zauber: patio coming soon + they have board game nights every Wednesday. How fun!
